Chess Tactics

This class will explain the great game of chess and cover chess piece movement, basic chess rules and help students learn how to develop chess strategy and execute a plan for different parts of the game.

Each session will have a brief review of piece movement and the topic covered the week before. The class will then build on concepts taught each week which include how to win a game of chess, starting out a chess game and basic chess strategy.
Audience: Ages 5-9

Meet Our Instructor

Alanna Katz
Alanna Katz is the Co-Founder and Lead Instructor at Growing Minds Chess Academy, which manages the chess curriculum and chess team at Avenues The World School. She also co founded www.chesskatz.org, a premier chess teaching organization in NYC. She is one of the top 100 female chess players in the US. Spencer Wood is a 5th grade student at Avenues. Spencer started learning chess in 1st grade and is currently one of the top 35 10-year-old chess players in the country.
