Intro to Knitting

Adults · Learning
This course will teach the basics of knitting - casting on (i.e. putting the first stitches on the needle), knitting, purling, and a demo of binding off. Because it is easier to learn in the context of a project, we will be making coasters, and you can find the free pattern for Beginner Coasters here You are welcome to make something else or just practice - it's up to you!
Audience: Adults
Yarn and needles. To make the Beginner Coaster pattern, you will need US size 11 needles and super bulky weight yarn (this is thick yarn, and the label will specify needle sizes between US sizes 11 and 17 - anywhere in that range is fine). If you're making something else, you will want to get a size of needle that works with your yarn, and here are some Knitting FAQs about how to choose yarn and needles that go together.

You can also purchase our kit which includes all the materials: Beginner Coasters Kit

Cheryl Solomon
After two decades as a practicing lawyer in the fashion industry, Cheryl Solomon founded Row House:, a website that sells a curated selection of ethically sourced, premium yarns, as well as kits, needles, notions, and designs. Row House also has a focus on beginner knitters, especially professional women who have difficulty getting to a yarn shop during their business hours and anyone who doesn’t have a yarn shop near them or wants to learn to knit in a way that works for their busy schedule.

Cheryl has been an avid knitter since college; it has always been an important tool she has used to manage stress and be more mindful, and creative. Prior to founding Row House, Cheryl worked as a lawyer in the fashion industry - she was TOMS Shoes’ first Chief Legal Officer and prior to that global general counsel of the Gucci Group.
